Christmas has come very early as Sony now lets gamers buy PS2 games for the PS4 console like it's the year 2000 through the PlayStation store in America and in Europe.

According to Gadgets 360, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida said, the availability of the games is in celebration of the PS2 heritage. It is only limited to digital PS2 games, however, and PS2 discs aren't compatible yet. Regardless, it's not necessarily a bad thing as these counterparts are arguably better than their original versions.

PlayStation LifeStyle reported that some of the most popular games available for sale are Dark Cloud at $14.99, Grand Theft Auto III at $14.99, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City at $14.99, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas at $14.99, Rogue Galaxy at $14,99, The Mark of Kri at $14.99, Twisted Metal: Black at $9.99, and War of the Monsters at $9.99.

"We have brought these titles forward to meet today's gaming standards by adding Trophy support! Each title's Trophy set has been carefully developed in conjunction with feedback from the original creators to be sure that they capture the spirit and feeling of each game," said Yoshida.

The Verge wrote that the games can be experienced in up-rendered 1080p. "We will be working tirelessly to bring you your favorite PS2 games with new releases on a regular basis," he said.

Rogue Galaxy and the Grand Theft Auto games can be played at the PlayStation Experience 2015 show floor. More titles are coming soon, such as PaRappa the Rapper 2 and The King of Fighters 2000.

Most of the games have intellectual property that Sony owns, making the new feature easier to launch. There are no official news on when  Sega, Capcom, and Square Enix will release games for the PS4 console yet.

The games will not be cheap. Some people have expressed irritation over Sony's move and even argued that it's new money for old rope.
