Men have to cultivate a culture that encourage women in workplace, says Dell's CMO

One of Dell's women executives gave her views on gender bias in the work place and encouraged men and women to do their part in eradicating this problem.

Dell CMO Karen Quintos pointed out that to remove gender bias in the work environment, men need to cultivate a culture that encourages women to think they can succeed, according to a report by the Business Insider. Quintos, who joined Dell in 200 and became the company's CMO in 2010, said "The world today needs more inclusive thinking, and women naturally bring traits to the table that... help companies succeed."

She said, their company recently joined MARC, a program which means Men Advocating For Real Change. It is a training that delves on the natural biases of people and the root of this way of thinking. It includes workshops to raise the awareness of the cultural and societal factors that affects these natural biases.

LinkedIn is one of the giant tech companies that hires a lot of women. Light Reading reported that among its 7,600 employees, 42 percent are women. Meanwhile, 30 percent of its executives are women and 18 percent of its tech-focused positions are held by females. The firm is continuously seeking to improve its culture on empowering women in the workplace.

Discrimination among women is very rampant that it is present even in Hollywood, according to Think Progress. Last October 44 executives from the showbiz industry met at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles to come up with a step to address this gender bias that has been going on in the entertainment industry. The event was organized by Sundance Institute and Women in Film, Los Angeles.

She said a company with increasing women in leadership role can have a broader point of view. This will lead to inclusive dialogue, conversation, and insights.

Quintos also encouraged women to be more visible and vocal about their jobs and express what roles they want to work in. Confidence is the major trait that a woman should have in the work environment. It is mustering all the experiences in the past and turning them into something valuable to the business.

Finally, she said, men in the workplace must play a significant role in cultivating a culture that encourages women to think they can succeed.
