Samsung has announced the new high-end smartphone in the Galaxy A lineup, called the Galaxy A9. The new smartphone was announced this week in the Galaxy A Party event in China after its specifications and design were leaked for several times in the past few weeks.

Samsung Galaxy A9 is the largest smartphone in the Galaxy A series family. The smartphone has 6 inch display, while its siblings Galaxy A5 and A7 have 5.2 and 5.5 inch display. As reported on 9to5 Google, the A9 has the same design with other phones in the Galaxy A lineup, complete with the metal sculpted edges and glass front panel.

The new Galaxy A9 measures 161.7 x 80.9 x 7.4 mm and weighs 200 grams. The phone is  0.1mm thicker  than the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 which measure 7.3 mm thickness.

According to Sam Mobile, the A9 features a Super AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass and a resolution of 1920 x 1080, giving it a pixel density of 367ppi. Samsung has managed the A9 display to fit into the phone, and its 2 mm wider than an iPhone 6s Plus.

The phone sports a 13 megapixel rear camera with OIS and ƒ/1.9 aperture, and an 8 megapixel front camera. It runs Android 5.1.1. Lollipop with TouchWiz on top. The A9 comes equipped with a 64 bit octacore Snapdragon 652 processor clocked at 1.8GHz, which is coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage space. It has a microSD slot that supports cards of up to 128GB capacity.

The most notable specification of the new A9 is the battery capacity. Samsung has managed to pack the handset with a huge  4,000mAh battery. With the A9 not having a Quad HD display and hosting a new efficient processor, the battery will be enough to get the user through 2 days of normal use.

Samsung Galaxy A9 has a built-in fingerprint scanner in its home button. And similar to recently launched other high-end devices from Samsung, the Galaxy A9 will be compatible with SamsungPay, the company's mobile payment service.

Samsung Galaxy A9 has been approved by China's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center, according to Phone Arena. This means, the handset is ready to be sold in China later this month. The Chinese certification officials has confirmed the features of the Galaxy A9, but the pricing of the smartphone has not yet been confirmed.

Samsung has not yet confirmed when the Galaxy A9 will be released in other countries. But the phone was approved by the U.S. Federal Communications Commision (FCC) last week, so it might be available in the U.S. market soon.
