‘Latte Macchiato’: ‘Starbucks’ Hits New Caffeine Beverage

All Starbucks stores across the US, Canada and some in Latin America are going to make a permanent addition to the menu. The coffee chain is all set to start serving the 'Latte Macchiato', a popular Australian drink from January 5 and onwards.

Starbucks - the Seattle cafe chain has introduced array of espresso and coffee concoctions to the Americans over the years. Now it is brewing a new combination of espresso and milk, in addition to the existing Lattes, Mochas, Caramel Macchiatos, Cappuccinos, Americanos, and plain old Espresso.

The unknown drink has been served to a few regular customers by Angus Maxwell, a 27-year-old barista of the coffee shop and attained huge acclamation. The drink maker has been awarded and promoted to a dreaming job for bringing the new drink to the masses.

Unlike 'Latte' or 'Cappuccino', the Latte Macchiato contains just two ingredients: espresso and milk. Pouring steamed whole milk into a glass, espresso is slowly added from a tiny pitcher. The mixture ends with a little dot atop. Eventually three distinct layers of the 'Latte Macchiato' appear in a clear glass, Cosmopolitan narrates the procedure involved.

The Latte Macchiato is somewhat of a reverse latte. Allowing the steamed milk to rest in the glass for a couple of moments, causes a temporary separation that leads the added espresso to create foams with distinct layers.

This small difference is supposed to invoke a much bolder espresso taste, which is then followed up with the sweetness and creaminess from the steamed milk. Though not visible through a Starbucks cup, the drink is actually much darker than a typical latte, describes Mashable quoting Angus Maxwell, while differentiating 'Latte' and the new 'Latte Macchiato'.

The Latte Macchiato joins the roster of core espresso beverages available at the coffee giant, bringing the total up to six. The drinks range from bold to creamy, depending on the espresso-to-other-ingredients ratio, reports Bustle referring Starbucks info graphics.

The drink is a nice stepping stone between a cappuccino or flat white and an Americano for those looking to graduate from glorified milkshakes to drinks. Starbucks menu book has labeled $3.75 tag for a cup while $4.25 for a tall.

Blended drinks and espresso drinks have contributed significantly to the beverage chain's growth last year. New caffeine beverages like Flat White, Frappuccino minis and cold, all add points of comparable sales growth during the fiscal third quarter.
