Donald Trump has been named TIME Person of the Year 2016. He has beaten people like Hillary Clinton, The Hackers, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, The Crisp Pioneers and Beyoncé. Even a month back, it was unthinkable for many that the GOP leader would receive this honor.
Trump has come a long way to winning hearts of the American people to be elected as the 45th president of the United States. Not many thought he would defeat a seasoned politician like Hillary Clinton, a former secretary of state. But, he did it anyway. And, he did it in a big way.
Intellectuals have never given much importance to Donald Trump. They have considered him as a showman with little substance. His distance from the common people of the country was always criticized. Simply because he never got respect from the elite class, it suddenly makes him one with the mass who suffer the same fate.
America chose Donald Trump as its next president for a reason. His strong personality and nonnegotiable business nature may prove to be more than a handful for the country. He will soon be the commander-in-chief of world's most powerful military. And, he must thank "the forgotten," millions of common Americans who chose him over Clinton despite his lack of experience. It is the same people who voted for Barack Obama. But, these people have felt betrayed by the elitist Democrats ever since. They now want someone who talks their language. "What amazes a lot of people is that I'm sitting in an apartment the likes of which nobody's ever seen," TIME quoted the president-elect as saying.
Trump's no-nonsense attitude makes him a likable personality to many. While there were speculations that he might win TIME Person of the Year 2016, he apparently broke the news on Twitter. He declared that he would be interviewed on NBC.
