Force Touch was recently incorporated in Apple's 15" MacBook Pro in the company's press announcement earlier this week. The more interesting announcement is its introduction of "configure-to-order" sales strategy.
Apple has several options for the new 15" MacBook Pro with Retina. It includes a choice for quad-core 2.2 GHz Core i7 with Turbo Boost that speeds up to 3.4 GHz, 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB of internal storage, Intel Iris Pro graphics with varying prices starting at $1,999. Another option is a quad-core 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.7 GHz, 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB internal storage with AMD Radeon R9 M370x graphics card priced at $2,499 and up. Apple also offer customized or "configure-to-order" units with faster processors of up to 2.8 GHz with Turbo Boost that maximizes speed up to 4.0 GHz and internal storage up to 1 TB.
This new strategy from Apple called "configure-to-order" is very interesting. It could be Apple's answer to other super-power laptops threatening to break Apple loyalist. It's as good as saying "we have everything you want, ask and you shall get - for the right price that is." This step is clever and could effectively eradicate the battle of the best performing computers.
Among the most reviewed computers is 15.6" Asus G501 features 4K display, barely 2kg, .81 inches thick, Core i7, 512 GB of PCIeSSD with Thunderbold 2.0. Another one is 15.6 inches Dell XPS features 4K display, Core i7 with up to 3.30 GHz, 16 GB memory, 1TB 5400 Hard Drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2GB GDDR5. These two other laptops have exceptional performance and design but they come as it is out of the box.
Apple has always been the top choice for quality, design and durability. Other manufacturers bank on better performance, compatibility, lower price range. Since apple introduced its "configure-to-order" concept, the only edge left for its competitors is the price aspect.
