GoPro Outs The Hero+LCD, A $299 Entry Level Camera With A Touchscreen

Jun 01, 2015 10:17 PM EDT

GoPro has added another member to its entry-level Hero camera family. The Hero+LCD is a budget-friendly touchscreen offering and is a welcome edition to the GoPro family.

GoPro made the announcement on Monday that GoPro announced on Monday that they will be releasing  $299 Hero+ LCD, a bold entry-level action camera which features with a built-in touchscreen. The Hero+ LCD is a welcome addition GoPro's roster of action cameras that would start at $130 for the Hero and normally fetch up to $500 for the Hero4 Black.

For those adventurous folk who want to go swimming in the Bahamas or go cliff-diving, the Hero+LCD is worth checking out. The brand new addition to the GoPro family is a decent revision of last fall's release: the GoPro Hero. The Hero+LCD has also made a hefty cut in the price department.

The Hero+LCD's chief feature is the built-in touchscreen LCD. Up until now, this was a feature exclusive only to the GoPro Hero 4 Silver. The LCD has been tweaked to make some decent improvements to the actual camera, as well. While the first GoPro Hero could only record video footage up to 1080p at 30 frames per second (or 60fps at 720p), the Hero+ LCD can record a significant 1080p at 60fps, and features an 8-megapixel camera (compared to 5MP on the GoPro Hero). Other noteworthy upgrades include a  built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, which was notably absent last time, and there's HiLight tagging too. This was a feature exclusive to the higher  models of the GoPro family.

Yet another feature on the brand-new Hero+LCD that is worth noting is the in-camera video trimming. Fans of GoPro know that this is a feature that was not featured on the earlier GoPro devices. The Hero+LCD supports MicroSD cards with 64G capacity. The battery lif is good for two hours of video recording and also comes in a case that makes it waterproof up to 131 feet.

The Hero+ LCD will be available in the U.S. on June 7. The action camera will be available internationally on July 12.
