IHOP Logo undergoes facelift after 2 decades

Jun 02, 2015 01:53 AM EDT

IHOP Restaurant has undergone a welcome facelift for the first time in two decades. This is response to the brand's commitment to serving up smiles.

According to a previous report, the company decided that IHOP's old logo reminded people too much of a frown, and didn't want the company to be viewed that way. IHOP decided to give the company the facelift that it needed.

Vice President of Marketing Kirk Thompson said in a recent interview that the company did not want its guests to view the company in a negative light while having their pancakes. The old company logo, which used a red swoop was just "too sad" for the company's image. The company wanted customers everywhere to feel happy and think happy thoughts while thinking of IHOP and having a logo that reminded people of a frown was not going to help.

"Our guests have told us for many years that coming to IHOP, and in many cases just thinking about our world famous pancakes, makes them smile," Thompson said of the IHOP logo. "We believe this new logo captures the essence of the IHOP experience, which consistently delivers our guests not only craveable food, but also great memories shared with family and friends."

The brand new logo will be featured prominently on the IHOP menu, website, mobile app, as well as signages at select restaurants everywhere.

IHOP is also dedicated to giving their brand makeover to a whole new level by launching a feel-good campaign. "To further demonstrate the IHOP commitment to smiles, the launch of the new logo will be celebrated with a series of 'Summer of Smiles' activities devoted to those who, through service and other programs, help people smile," continued Thompson.
