Doorman raises $1.5 million to eliminate missed package deliveries

Jun 03, 2015 05:04 AM EDT

Doorman is a startup company that aims to solve issues of missed mail and package delivery. The company has raised $1.5 million in seed funding to continue to grow its business; it will also be launching an API.

API retailers will be able to integrate scheduling system of Doorman into other company websites and apps. The API will help boost their business further by giving companies a way to work with them.

The funding was led by Doorman's advisor Motus Ventures. WTI, MicroVentures, and VGO Ventures were the other participants in the funding, according the TechCrunch.

Prior to this round of funding, Doorman raised $375,000 from smaller VC and angel investors.

The company was founded by former Pixar Technical Director, Zander Adell. The company is based out of San Francisco, California.

Today's same-day deliveries from retailers and from online shopping destinations are still reaching its final destination via UPS and FedEx. As a result, the consumers have less control over the timing of a delivery's arrival,

Doorman's mobile users have the option of sending packages and mail to the company warehouse. After this is done, the users can give instruction to Doorman as to where and when they want the packages. Via Doorman, one can send mail and packages as late as midnight, according to Techco.

Currently, it is offers hourly scheduling from 6 pm to midnight, catering heavily to office workers who can't be home during the day for deliveries.

Doorman has delivered over 25,000 packages in San Francisco although it declined to say how many customers it has served at this time.

Doorman will soon be launching its API, with its first partner, ShipCompliant, a software platform that serves over 1,000 different wineries with compliance and deliverability APIs.

NakedWines.com will be the first winery that will be taking advantage of the Doorman API.

Doorman last week announced expanding their services to Chicago and New York.
