Lawn care startup LawnStarter has announced that it has raised $6 million in Series A funding. The new funding will be used to beef up its management, engineering and marketing teams.
The service is present in 12 cities across the US, including Austin, San Diego, Orlando and Washington, D.C.
The co-founder of the company, Steven Corcoran says the company describes itself as "your personal lawn care concierge" so as to emphasize on LawnStarter's "focus on customer experience."
LawnStarter is following in the footsteps of startups like Handy and Homejoy which have brought home cleaning reservations online. Clients can book appointments with gardening professionals via LawnStarter website or mobile application. It asks customers to rate the hired gardening professionals for other clients to see these reviews. The app also notifies clients if there is a change in schedule due to weather conditions or when a seasonal service is due.
In a TechCrunch report, Steve Corcoran emphasized that building a relationship with clients is most important to them at this stage.
With LawnStarter, homeowners don't have to deal with more than two lawn care providers as the startup has aggregated all of that into one convenient purchase point.
LawnStarter creates a directory of lawn-care companies in an area. Homeowners can search the site, get a quote, and place an order, says Xconomy in an article.
However, it is not the only startup in the lawn care market. One directly sharing the business space with LawnStarter is yard care provider Robin. Robin is a Texas-based company, which recently received a $1.2 million in seed funding.
LawnStarter co-founder Corcoran says the thing that fundamentally makes his company different is the focus on really helping existing businesses to grow.
SiliconHills says to date, LawnStarter has raised $7.25 million. The latest funds will help the lawn care platform expand and hire more employees.
LawnStarter was earlier part of the Techstars Austin program and raised $1 million in seed funding at the start of this year. Since then, the startup says it has grown 1,000 %.
