Facebook Inc's Messenger is expanding its chat platform to game developers- and it begins with Doodle Draw. The game is simple: it suggests a word, and you draw it and share it publicly or privately amongst friends on Facebook or Messenger. And when your friends receive the picture via Facebook or Messenger, they will have to guess as to what the picture might be.
Facebook Inc told Tech Crunch, that Doodle Draw is the first "true game" available since the platform launched in April. And with this development, Facebook's intentions are becoming clearer as more games on the Messenger may follow.
Doodle Draw may be the first true game on Messenger, but the game may lead to spamming of contacts as users are given the option to earn points, which they can by getting friend to participate. As Facebook has put a lid on Candy Crush notifications, the same can be done - if needed -- to Doodle Draw.
Messenger has been downloaded over 1 billion times via Google play store. The chat platform also has 600 million users. This simply tells us the app is very popular. Facebook Messenger will pull in a lot of game developers, which will certainly help Facebook to become the core of our every day communications.
The news of the game on Messenger comes after Facebook recently said that it would allow third-party developers in its chat platform. Till recently, Messenger only allowed GIF and sound effect makers on its platform.
Currently, Messenger is not generating revenues from apps which are there on its platform, saying it does not need it because Facebook can provide for both the platforms.
Back in the day, Facebook earned large sums when it used to collect 30 percent tax on games. However, profit from games has decreased in recent years.
