Roomi, a free mobile app that simplifies roommate search for New Yorkers, launched June 9 with a $2 million worth of seed funding led by DCM Ventures. The funding will be used for expanding operations and improving features.

Roomi will use the money to boost their operations by adding more features to the app, expanding to Android, and hiring top-tier employees in their company, according to BusinessWire. During the launch, the free roommate app has about 100,000 downloads.

The other companies that joined the round for funding Roomi, according to TechCrunch include Great Oak Ventures, Sand Hill East, Greg Kidd, Jeff Dishner, Jeff Penney, Aarihant Patni, and AngelList Consumer Fund.

Roomi can easily be considered as the number one app for roommate and housing search. This free app is very useful for the rental industry, according to inman. New Yorkers will be the first to experience this app. It is quiet appropriate since rents are sky high in that city, while wages remain flat.

The roommate pairing app allows the user to list their apartments on the application. They have to fill in some important information and snap a few photos of them and their apartment. After that, other users can browse through their profiles to determine whether they are compatible or not. If the users show interest Roomi will set up a messaging tool to help them set up time when to see the apartment.

Roomi is better than most roommate finding app because it is very secure and it creates a marketplace that uses an extensive social graph. It makes searching for the right roommate and apartment place much more convenient and faster.

Roomi founder and CEO, Ajay Yadav said, "New York is an expensive city. But when rent spikes and income flat lines, you have a situation that's pushing more and more people into shared living." The CEO found a problem and he created a solution for it through the Roomi mobile app.
