After a silent acquisition of the app streaming startup company Agawi sometime last year, Google is now confirming the buyout after the rumors started spreading on the internet.
Its name standing out for the saying "any game anywhere instantly," Agawi enables users have an early look at the applications or games by low-latency streaming, without the need to download them first on their handsets. With its full utilization, it will enable users to try applications or games first before they could buy them - basically like a demo.
Agawi was founded by Peter Rolan, Rajat Gupta, and Rojan Relan, all software engineers and are now currently employed by Google, according to their LinkedIn accounts. Agawi Inc.'s acquisition was also mentioned in its CrunchBase account.
According to some report, Agawi had undergone separation with another company called YouWeb before getting acquired by Google.
Prior to Google's acquisition of the California-based startup company, it has already worked with big companies such as Marvel, Microsoft, NVIDIA, many app publishers, including cloud service providers which helped enable the app-streaming through the cloud.
In a separate report by CBROnline, the said reason for Google's acquisition of the startup company - as hinted in a note given to TechCrunch -- is to bolster the use of the web instead of applications thereby increasing its advertising revenues. Further verifying the authenticity of the news is when a spokesperson from Google told the tech blog: "The Agawi team has joined Google. We aren't sharing other details."
Even before the confirmation coming from Google itself, there are already several hints that may prove the rumor to be true - Agawi was no longer taken as a live business by having its web site shut down (at least, it is so up to the present) and several of the company's Twitter accounts have not been updated for at least 2 years since 2013.
