The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration met with agents of the Mexican attorney general's office to discuss moves on recapturing escaped drug kingpin Joaquin"El Chapo" Guzman.

Mexico has always wanted to maintain its independence from United States on matters of national security. But the Mexican government has taken raps for not being able to extradite Guzman to the USA.

Prosecutors from the US seek for Guzman's extradition, with reports from the US media citing that the US government has sent formal request for the drug kingpin's extradition. But a formal request was never announced to the public.

The Mexican attorney general's office said they don't want to hand over Guzman to the US, because the drug overlord should serve his time in Mexico.

Guzman went through a tunnel under the shower stall while he was in custody in a maximum-security prison in Mexico. This is a big damage to the reputation of Enrique Peña Nieto, Mexico's president. Nieto is a young, conservative politician who vowed to end corruption and bring law and order in the drug-wars dominating Mexico.

Meanwhile, in the US, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump seeks for FBI's help after receiving death threats in Twitter from Guzman's son. Now that Guzman is free, Donald Trump seem to be bothered.

Trump recently accused Mexico of sending criminals to American soil. He said in his Twitter account that the US border policies should be tightened after Sinaloa Cartel head escaped. An unverified and unauthenticated Twitter user retweeted that he will let Donald Trump eat his words.

Guzman is a high-profile criminal who was boss of the Sinaloa cartel before he was captured in February 2014. His organization has smuggled billions of dollars worth of drugs to the US, and has caused a lot of deaths along the way.
