Yemeksepeti CEO in Turkey gives out $27M to employees after sale

Nevsat Aydin, the co-founder and CEO of Yemeksepeti, an online delivery website in Turkey, shared $27M of revenue to its 114 employees after Delivery Hero acquired the company in May.

When Delivery Hero, a German online food delivery service bought Yemeksepeti in May, CEO Nevzat Aydin took out $27M of profit from the sale to give out to his 114 employees. The bonus amounts roughly to $237,000 each which is 150 times of their monthly salary.

"We have shared $27 million of the money we earned with our 114 employees," Aydin told the Hurriyet Daily News.

"There were emotions, because you affect the lives of the people. People can buy homes, cars. They can immediately do something otherwise they could not with monthly wages of 3,000-5,000 Turkish Liras. It was a good thing; I wish we could have given them more," the benevolent CEO emphasized.

A Delivery Hero spokesman told CNN Money that the bonus reflects the Yemeksepeti's success. It is based on the employee's performance, the length of time they worked for the company and their potential in the future. "The success of companies like Delivery Hero and Yemeksepeti is based on amazing company cultures where tremendous people always walk the extra mile," he added.

Delivery Hero is an online food service that started in Germany and now transacting in 34 countries. It was founded by Niklas Östberg in 2011 together with the team who have a long experience conveying unique concepts in the food delivery system.

Through the website and the app, customers are assisted to order their food easily providing thousands of restaurant menus and sending the meal in their homes and working areas. Delivery Hero's goal is to provide the ordered meal on time.

As of now, the company has 560 staff in its main office in Berlin along with 2,000 employees worldwide. The team had augmented $1B from various venture capital firms in Europe for its worldwide expansion.

On the other hand, Yemeksepeti is the premium online food delivery in Turkey. It was founded in 2001 by Nevzat Aydın, Cem Nüfusi, Melih ÖdemiÅŸ and Gökhan Akan. The company had extended its service in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, The Sultanate of Oman, Lebanon and the State of Qatar, according to the Super Brands Turkey.
