Digital payment app has become a trend and BlackBerry Messenger now allows its user to send money online by integrating with PayPal.
Users simply have to connect their PayPal and BlackBerry Messenger accounts to use the service. Users don't even need to have PayPal app on their phone to avail the feature. By simply selecting the "Send Money" icon in the BBM, users will be instructed on how to send money.
This new feature, however, is still in its beta stage and is limited to users in Canada. This new feature is available on BlackBerry devices, iOS, and Android.
BlackBerry and PayPal announced Wednesday that they have partnered on a project. This new project is called BBM Money and it will allow users to send and receive money conveniently and quickly.
BBM and PayPal are prompted to come up with their own money delivery project as many other hardware and software companies are developing their own payment processes. Apple has its Apple Pay, Google acquired Softcard, while Samsung has its Samsung Pay. Besides these giant tech companies, Facebook also has its own peer-to-peer payment solutions.
PayPal has long been one of the most popular digital payments providers. With all the competing companies, PayPal is now focusing on the less saturated market, like providing BBM with the P2P payment feature.
PayPal is also working on its backend payment processing services. It recently acquired Paydiant and Braintree to handle this feature. This strategy allows it to expand its business while competing with their rivals.
PayPal Consumer Product Marketing Director Matt Gromada confirmed that more countries will experience the send and receive money option later on after the beta feature roll out.
BlackBerry is also aggressively expanding its services beyond simple chatting, which lead them to partner up with PayPal. With an easier way to send and receive money, customers are at an advantage.
