Qualcomm announced Quick Charge 3.0. It is a 'next-generation' charger that promises to charge smart phones from 0 to 80% by 35 minutes. The charger will be available alongside Snapdragon processors next year.

Qualcomm Technologies Inc. introduces Quick Charge 3.0. It is a fast charger that improves charging of batteries by 27% and reduces power dissipation by 45%. The 3.0 can charge drained batteries by 80% in a matter of 35 minutes, Arstechnica reported.

Alex Katouzan, SVP of product management at Qualcomm said in a news release they are bringing the new technology to address the demand of tech manufacturers and consumers. "Quick Charge 3.0 addresses a primary consumer challenge with today's mobile devices in helping users restore battery life quickly and efficiently, and does so through leading technology and a robust ecosystem including leading device and accessory OEMs."

Qualcomm said they came up with minimal changes in designing the Quick Charge 3.0. This is for OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to spend less in adapting the fast charging technology.

Considerably, 20 OEMs and 90 accessories had supported Quick Charge 2.0.   The latest version is authorized by other operators as well.

Qualcomm will start shipping the Quick Charge along with Snapdragon 617, 618, 620, 820 and 430 in 2016. It would be supported by USB-C connectors.

The Next Web specified the older version only offers four types of voltage while the 3.0 could power up devices with 82 voltage sizes.

Quick Charge 3.0 uses an Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV). It is a technology that Qualcomm developed to allow devices to request a power level from the charger starting with 3.6V, 20V to 200mV increments.

The 3.0 is also compatible with older devices that use Quick Charge 1.0 and 2.0 chargers. It also supports USB A, USB micro and other proprietary connectors. However, to utilize its fastest charging capability, your device must be parallel to the company's charging configuration.

With Qualcomm's upcoming processors and the fast charging feature, the leading provider of wireless technology is about to set the trend once more. Expect an LTE Advanced, big data speed system-on-chip and next-gen chargers next year.
