The recent survey from Reuters shows that U.S. universities are the home of the most innovative projects. Though Asian universities have been fairly competent with universities from Korea, Japan, Singapore, and China.
In the recent Reuters Top 100 Most Innovative Universities, the survey shows American universities lead the world in producing great innovations. But Asia, known for its contribution in disruptive ideas, has been a strong candidate.
Educational institutions play a huge role in the world's economy. It is where innovative projects are sharpened into products that will maneuver the global financial system.
On that note, Reuters published on Wednesday the world's top innovative universities. The survey aims to determine the top institutions that made an impact in the global economy.
Though The Jakarta Post remarked that while university innovation is a good indicator, innovation is hard to measure as populous countries, of course, have high counts. On the other hand, it is still constructive to distinguish their performance.
The survey is based upon the number of universities' academic papers, basic research, and global patents. It includes how often a university application was granted, how many were filed and how often they file patents.
Stanford University at California's Silicon Valley topped it all. Stanford has built its name in computer technology. The faculty and alumni had put up tech companies like Yahoo, Google, and HP. A study from the university showed that businessmen from Stanford contribute a total of $2.7 trillion revenue every year.
Second in the rank is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in which its patents and articles are always seen by researchers in the corporate world.
Third is the Harvard University. It is the oldest university in the United States. According to CNBC, Harvard has the most number of rich students. A Wealth-X report says 3,130 Harvard alumni have a high net worth which amounts to a total of $30 million.
Evidently, U.S. universities occupied the top nine. But one Asian university made it on the 10th place. It's the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
Nine universities in Japan were included on the top 100, following South Korea with eight schools. Surprisingly, China has only one on the 72nd spot together with Singapore on the 94th.
Without a doubt, with its constantly increasing economy, universities in Asia have a lot of potentials to master tech innovations in the future.
