In the new episode of CNN's "Parts Unknown", Anthony Bourdain heads to Okinawa, Japan. In his journey, he discovered the reasons why Okinawa is very different to other parts of Japan.

Despite being the place renowned for its major World War II encounters and a well- known Japanese beach resort, many tourists still know less about Okinawa. In fact, the site has an area of 1,200 square kilometers and is made up of small islands in the southern half of the Nansei Shoto island chain, which stretches over 1,000 kilometers from Japan's Kyushu island to Taiwan.

Okinawa is also popularly known as Ryukyu Islands. Named after the independent kingdom that once prospered in the islands. Okinawa is home to a culture that's somewhat different from Japan. Although the locals speak Japanese, there are also a lot of distinct dialects spoken in the islands.

The best time to visit Okinawa is July through the end of September. October and November, and February through April, are also the peak season to visit the place even though it's cooler than in peak months.  Allegedly, one of the many reasons why people in Okinawa have the longest life spans in the world is probably because of their healthy cuisines, including low-fat, low-salt diet  filled with fish, pork, tofu, seaweed and veggies.

On the other hand, Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown" features trips to Marseille, Okinawa, Ethiopia, California's Bay Area, Borneo, Istanbul and Charleston, S.C. Anthony. "Parts Unknown" reportedly follows the popular chef and best-selling author as he travels the world to uncover the areas of the globe where people know less in a celebration of their diverse foods and culture.

In  the upcoming episode of CNN's show, host Anthony Bourdain heads to Okinawa, Japan. According to a sneak peak video, he tries eating sashimi and the martial arts practice of karate, which is probably "Okinawa's most famous export." Bourdain also visits the dojo of famed karate master Hokama Sensei, where he gets beaten up by a karate master. The host claimed, "Apparently they don't know what tapping out means here, because I was tapping like Western f-----g Union."

Meanwhile, "Parts Unknown" Okinawa episode airs Sunday, October 11 on CNN. The show is produced by Zero Point Zero Production with executive producers Chris Collins, Lydia Tenaglia, Sandra Zweig, and Anthony Bourdain.
