Lawton Michigan Wine Makers Suffers Vineyard Crop Damage after Winters' Severe Freezing Temperature

Lawton Michigan Wine makers are facing a big problem this year as half of the vineyard crops are ravaged by the effects of the winter season. The vineyard's harvest was partly wipe out because of the severe freezing temperature. The local wine makers has experiencing severe winter season since last year.

The WWMT reported, half of grapefruits were crush by the cold temperature. Karma Vista Vineyards owner, Joe Herman says, "The last two years in a row just devastated it so we're removing the vineyard," The winter season had severely hit his vineyard crops, killing the buds and the whole vines. Herman calls it, Wine Darwinism in which he describe as, you either adapt or die.

However despite of the loss, the owner says he will start again.  "I also like to quote the (Red Hot) Chili Peppers: 'destruction leads to a very rough road but it also breeds creation,' so you get really excited about what you can do," The owner of the Karma Vista Vineyards added, "You know, it's terrible, all right get over it. Let's move on, do something else."

The Michigan Grape and the Wine Industry council it was their first time to see and experience such harsh temperature in their 20 years in vineyard industry. The winter season last year, following this year had been destroying their crops. Dean Bender, the co-owner of the Lawton Ridge Winery also said the worst possibility they might encounter. "We won't have as much as we typically would have, so it's possible we would run out," 

The Lawton Ridge Winery faces the same problem. Their vineyard's harvest was reduced into twenty percent especially their special European grapes. However, the local wine maker is still determined for a fresh start. Herman said, "We're going to be so much better and stronger because of what we've learned from this,".
