Google announced Tuesday that it will add two new features to its Google Maps mobile app that will allow users to add a stop on their current route and another app that lets users to find gas prices along their route.

According to Tech Crunch, users can access the new feature by tapping the magnifying glass icon at the top-right corner of the screen while the app is in navigation mode. A drop-down menu will appear with a few options that includes gas stations, restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores.

There is a "search for more places" button that allows users to look for other addresses and businesses.

A Forbes reporter explains how convenient the new apps are. Just by selecting Gas stations, the user will be given the locations of the nearest gas stations within the route, as well as the prices of regular gas in these stations.

There may be other companies that offer gas prices on your mobile app, like GasBuddy.com's GasBuddy app, but most people are more dependent on Google maps to provide them with the directions they need when driving.

9 to 5 Google reported that Google will roll out the new updates for all Map users over the new weeks. Google said, "Now you can check out gas prices and add detours to your route, without having to exit out the navigation".

"When you're driving in navigation mode and you get that call from your spouse to pick up some more milk on your drive home or if you're on a road trip and want to find a great restaurant option along your route, simply tap the magnifying glass at the top right corner of the screen".

Besides the convenient short cuts, users can also see a microphone icon and search option for those who prefer voice searches to look for additional points of interests.
