Delta Million Mile Status: Earning free $645 Delta Million miler gift

Oct 31, 2015 08:58 AM EDT

The Delta Platinum Medallion package is currently offering the new Platinum Medallion credentials. In addition, the members of the million miler club will acquire a free $645 Delta Million miler gift.

Many of the users' Delta Platinum Medallion package arrived via mail. The company announced on the label of the envelop, "Give your bag some shiny new style. Platinum Medallion Credentials Are Here." And by that message, customers claim that the million miler is a well marketed promotion from Delta. The next thing one should notice on the tag is "#BRAGTAG", with its included package which is the 3 Platinum Medallion bag tags, 4 drink certificates good through 12/31/16, and 2 employee recognition certificates.

With the 1 million mark status comes a couple perks. The silver medallion status for one, but more importantly is a choice of the gift from Tumi, Tiffany or Hartman. The Delta Million miler program from Delta Skymiles rewards customers with benefits each time the customer hits a Million Mile threshold. Million Mile status is based on earning Medallion Qualifying Miles with the Delta program.

Many clients chose the Tumi Alpha Continential expandable 2 carry-on, which can be viewed through Amazon. The eligibility of the gift selection is based on a member's Lifetime Medallion Qualification Miles balance. Eligible members will be notified through their mail. On the other hand, the selection instructions of the free gift are included in the notification mailed to eligible members. The member must also take note that the offer is non transferable and selections must be made by the eligible member.

But what many members find most disappointing is that Delta only provided 2 employee- recognized Orion certificates. It seems like Delta is not only devaluing Delta Sky Miles, but also the customer employee recognition program. Many customers had been receiving more than 2 certificates and have always looked forward to putting them to good use.

And previously, the Frugal Travel Guy praised Delta and their Diamond Moments. However, with the changes in frequent flyer programs and cutbacks to perks in general, they seemingly lowered their expectations for any recognition of this exciting moment.

Meanwhile, though there  were some changes in the million miler promo of Delta, many users still claim that attaining million miler status indicates that they have successfully flown a million miles, which is a great accomplishment for frequent flyers. This also usually gives them the benefit of permanent status with the airline at some elite level. For instance, a one million miler with Delta gets Silver Status granted on an annual basis while a two million miler would get Gold Status.
