As one of the greatest capital cities of ancient times, Nanjing City in China boasts their creative art culture and one of the city's prides in the work of art is the Nanjing Sifang Art Park. Located at the outskirt of the city, the park and art museum is one of the architectural wonder in China with its unique architectural structure.
According to CNN Travel, Back in the year 2003, some of the famous names in the world of architectural art, International and Chinese architecture were gathered and was a chance to take part of a commission project, to design 20 buildings at the one of a kind landscape. Internationally known architectures included, New York architect Steven Holl, dissident artist Ai Weiwei, Chinese Pritzker prize winner Wang Shu and the UK-based David Adjaye.
The project is now known Sifang Art Collective that is also financially supported by Lu Jun, a Chinese local businessman and his son, Lu Xun, an art collector. The collaboration of the chosen architects resulted to create artful features of the building. There's Holl's suspended gallery with his family's fine art collection, the russet-roof conference center that can accommodate 400 visitors, designed by Arata Isozaki, a Japanese architect.
The art museum also features a small hotel in modern style called Hotel Monochrome designed by a Chinese architect named Liu Jiakun. The dotted around the green 115-acre site are 17 other houses and villas. A Chile-based architect named Mathias Klotz designed the rooftop of the villa with a perky lily pond with a concrete stepping stones leading to a hidden stairwell that will take guests down into the house.
Another Chinese architect, Wang Shu crafted his skills at the Chinese courtyard with two ancient trees, one at the courtyard and the other one in the building. A sun-dappled Light Box was also featured from the Adjaye that formed a tunnel of densely packed bamboo.
Nanjing-based architect, Zhou Qi said, "They invited architects to do what they liked and architects can be crazy and want to do things regardless of cost." The art museum debut was inaugurated in 2013 and the project investment was reported to at least $164 million. However, the building still has five unfinished structures.
