Iceland has so many wonderful sights to visit and it is essential that travelers should include Vik in the travelers' trip. Moreover, VÃk is Iceland's most southerly village so a lot of guests actually recognize this site as one of the most popular places in South Iceland.
According to Style Hi Club, Vik is the southernmost village in Iceland. It is located on the ring road that encircles Iceland just similar to every other village found in the country. It is considered as the largest for 40 miles in all directions and has a small population of just nearly 300 people. It is found on an array of small rolling green hills that lead down to the water's edge.
Vik is the only seaside settlement in Iceland that has a harbor and that is because of just natural circumstances. The average precipitation in the place is high compared to Iceland, however, this is not always the case as the weather here changes very quickly.
The silhouette of Myrdalsjokull, the glacier on top of the Katla volcano is not far from the landscape of Vik. Around the town there are a number of hills, including Mount Reynisfjall, which are formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. The town is also dominated by the Reynisfjall cliffs, Vik's beach is well- known as one of the most beautiful in the black sand beaches in the world.
The needles of Reynisdrangar as well as the trolls' boulders, are making this place popular with visitors. But according to legend, these stunning rocks are in fact two trolls that were trying to sink a ship along the shore and as the sun came out, they were turned into two stones, as claimed by Iceland Like A Local.Â
Additionally, an Icelandair Hotel was recently built in Vik. The Icelandair Hotel Vik is neighboring another hotel named Hotel Edda. These hotels are considered 3-star hotels, but most tourists prefer Icelandair hotel since it is newer. The rate when booking a room including breakfast was slightly under $200, which is what some budget travelers want.
But before heading to their hotels, travelers would often have their two stops for a great travel in the South Iceland region. They often times stop over Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss Waterfalls. From a distance Seljalandsfoss, tourists cannot really appreciate its beauty, but as they get closer, they would realize what makes it so special is that it provides them the opportunity to walk behind the waterfall, as mentioned in a blog site called the Frugal Travel Guy.
On the other hand, Skogafoss is even larger than the other waterfall. Guests can get as close as they want, but they cannot walk pass through it. They might as well climb on the steps of Skogafoss to the top of the mountain for a better sight of the waterfall from above.
On any trip to Iceland, frequent travelers would often times suggest a visit to the town of Vik. And as an added bonus, Vik promises its unique geological features not likely to see elsewhere in Iceland that draw guests to stopover and stay in the town.
