Motor Trend Magazine recognized The Chevy Camaro as the Car of The Year, while the Chevy Colorado gets the Truck of the Year honors.
According to CNN the magazine picked the Camaro out of seven other cars, including the Toyota Mirai, Mercedes-Benz GT S, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Honda Civic, BMW 7 Series, and the Audi TT. Motor Trend Editor-in-chief Edward Loh said, the Camaro is one of the best driving cars in the world at any price, which is affordable enough for the average consumer. The new Camaro model is 200 pounds lighter than its predecessors. Buyers can choose among three engines, which are the turbocharged 275-horsepower four-cylinder engine, the 335-horsepower V-6, and the 455-horsepower V-8. Motor Trend said, the Camaro is "built for driving enthusiasts."
Meanwhile, USA Today reported that Chevy Colorado's victory is significant for GM, as the industry started embracing mid-sized pickup trucks. GM revived the Colorado and gave it an overhaul. After that, more customers opted for Colorado and the GMC Canyon. Over 70,000 Colorado units were sold in the first 10 months of 2015, making it Chevrolet's eighth most popular model. The company also sold almost 25,000 Canyons on the same period of the year. Colorado won over other finalists such as the Chevrolet Silverado1500, GMC Sierra 1500, GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, and the Nissan Titan XD.
In a report by Mil-Tech, the new 21016 Colorado comes with an optional class-exclusive 2.8-liter inline-four Duramax diesel, which allows it to have a capacity to tow 7,700 pounds and a wonderful fuel economy. "Our Truck of the Year is not only stylish and capable on-road and off, it recorded the highest fuel economy numbers we've ever seen, when equipped with its class-exclusive diesel engine," said Jason Cammisa, the presenter of the award.
This is the second year that Colorado received the magazine's top award. Meanwhile, Motor Trend awarded Volvo XC90 as the SUV of the Year.
