United States Postal Service (USPS) on Monday released special augmented-reality app available for iOS and Android. The app enable users to take a selfie with Peanut characters in its anniversary of the comic strip and animated special.

The Postal Service announced its augmented reality (AR) app is available to download from Google Play or iTunes App Store as part of Mailbox Miracle experience. After installing the app, users can point the phone camera at USPS blue eagle logo on one of 160,000 blue mailboxes all across America. Users then can have take picture with Peanuts characters as part of the experience between Nov. 23 to Nov. 25 and again in December until Dec. 28.

According to Mashable, users will have the ability to take a photo of themselves next to characters like Charlie Brown and Snoopy at real world locations with the USPS app. This app is a continuation of USPS Peanuts-oriented holiday campaign. Last month, postal service launched special stamps collection to commemorate special's 50th anniversary of Peanuts animated series, and the 65th anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip. The stamp was a 10 stamps series of still frames from the Charlie Brown TV Christmas special.

Peanuts character was created by Charles Schulz in October 1950 as a syndicated comic strip. It is the most successful comic strip and the longest ever published. Peanuts was published for a consecutive 50 years, from October 2, 1950 until February 3, 2000. Later, an animated television special was made based on the Peanuts main character, Charlie Brown. The "Charlie Brown Christmasl" animated special was first aired on December 9, 1965 in CBS. Its main theme is the over-commercialization and secularism over Christmas, and reminding viewers about the true meaning of Christmas.

The Examiner reported that on Monday Nov. 30, ABC will air Charlie Brown special program, "It's Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown." The one-hour program will feature singer Sarah McLachlan performing the song "Christmastime" and video clip of Stacy Ferguson, the voice of Sally, Charlie Brown's sister in Peanuts' special.

Previously, to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the comic strip and 50th anniversary of the Charlie Brown Christmas' TV special, Sky Blue Studios produced the 3D computer animated "The Peanuts Movie,".  It was directed by Steve Martino and written by Schulz's son and grandson, Craig and Bryan Schulz. The movie was released on Nov. 6 and distributed by 20th Century Fox.

Peanuts characters selfie is one of USPS Mailbox Miracle AR experience. According to Globe News Wire, the Postal Service has prepared other upcoming experiences, including the gingerbread box, three busts and holiday countdown.

As part of holiday celebration, USPS invites America to celebrate joy and festivity of Christmas with its AR experience. The app is USPS participation to commemorate the 50th year of Charlie Brown Christmas special.
