Tinder's download increased by 400% in just a year, with more women using the app
Online dating app Tinder reported a 400 percent increase in downloads in the country India in the past year.
According to a report by India, there are more women using the dating app than men. The app has a new feature called "Super Like," and data shows that more women sent this button than men. There is a total of over one million people who send the "Super Like" button in the country each week.
The Times of India has reported that Tinder's India head Taru Kapoor said, "We are truly excited about the rapid adoption of Tinder in India...women particularly seem to love Tinder, sending more Super Likes than men each week, which is incredibly empowering."
The IMRB International and the Internet and Mobile Association of India reported that the country will have 402 million Internet users before the end of the year. This means, the increasing internet connectivity in the country is one of the major reasons for Tinder's soaring download growth.
CNET has reported that the dating platform isn't the only app that gained from the fast growing internet connectivity in India, as Instagram also doubled its userbase from September up to this month. Besides internet connectivity, the smartphone sector has also grown rapidly in India with a 44 percent year-on-year increase in the second quarter of 2015.
More than half of the population in India are under 35 years old, making it a favourable area for a dating app. According to Tinder, some 90 percent of the users in India are 18 to 34 years old. Kapoor said conversations on Tinder last longer in India compared to other countries.
The app, which was launched in 2012, is now present in 196 countries with 30 different languages. There are over 10 billion matches that were made through Tinder so far, with an average of 26 million matches every day.
