One of the fastest growing high spec smartphone company, the OnePlus is taking a hit today as its latest USB Type-C cable is receiving lots of complaint by the consumer. The company announces today that they will refund customers who bought the flawed USB-C Cable .

However, the company said in a statement that it will not refund all the faulty cables but will only do so for those who bought the cable separately. This is because the faulty cable only affected other devices but not to its own OnePlus 2 device.

News regarding the faulty cable starts to surface after a google engineer who has been testing the cable points out the faulty in the cable saying that the USB cable could risk user damaging their charger, hub, or PC according to Tech Times of India.

The engineer, Benson Leung said that the cable will work fine with devices that do not support fast charging like the OnePlus 2 but will bring harm to other devices such as Google's Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

According to Gizmodo, the company acknowledge the fault and said in a statement that "Recently it has come to our attention that two of our products, the OnePlus Type-C Cable and the OnePlus USB Type-C adapter, are using a resistor that may not be fully compatible with some third-party devices. Please rest assured that this cable and adapter are safe to use with the OnePlus 2."

Engadget reported that the problem is due to no standardization set by anyone yet regarding the USB Type-C cable hence causing a different manufacturer to produce it with a different standard. According to a statement by OnePlus spokesperson, the difference in the resistance in the cable is the main cause of the problem.

The company should use a 56kΩ resistor in its cable as it will support fast charging butt instead it used a 10kΩ resistor as the cable will support its own OnePlus 2 smartphone. Because of this, a connected device may attempt to draw 3 Ampere worth of electric instead of lower electric. This will resulting in a damage to the devices connected to the USB cable and could even frying the power source.

OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei clarified the problem in the company's forum complete with a table explaining the type of devices and power suitable for the USB cable. He said that any refund needs to be done before December 31^st. He also said that the company is currently developing a new USB Type-C cable which will come with a 56kΩ resistors.
