Chinese shoppers spend $55 million on sales events from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday

Online shopping has become more popular these days, especially that it can now be done on mobile devices. Black Friday and Cyber Monday might be in the United States of America, but through online shopping, $55 million of the sales came from Chines buyers.

Total online sales during the holiday sales from Thanksgiving Day to Cyber Monday hit $11 billion, according to a report by CNN. 0.5% of those sales are from Chinese buyers.

Smartphone shopping is a big factor that boosted online sales, especially during Cyber Holiday, according to a report from the Inquirer. Adobe Digital Index reported that there was a $490 million sales during the first 10 hours of the online holiday sales event. That is a 14 percent increase from 2014.

Before the holiday sales in America, Chinese shoppers also spent a lot during the unofficial holiday called "Singles Day" on November 11. According to a report by Wharton, during that shopping event, China's Alibaba Group made $14.3 million gross sales. That figure is seven times bigger compared to the volume of sales during last year's Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday made $2.59 billion in online transactions last year, a 24% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, Alibaba's Singles' Day went up by 60% in gross sales from the last year.

"Out of stock is at an all-time high this Cyber Monday-15 out of 100 product views are returning out of stock messages," according to Adobe, a firm that measures the majority of online sales from the top 100 American retailers.

The strong US Dollar is making American products expensive for foreign buyers, but these demographic still accounts for 5 percent of online holiday sales after the US Thanksgiving. Besides China, shoppers from Brazil and U.K. also account for a sizeable chunk of the holiday sales. British retailers are also putting up their own Black Friday deals.
