PlayStation Messages Coming to Android and iOS
Sony PlayStation now has a new messaging system called PlayStation Messages. Every users in PlayStation Network will be able to connect each other using their Android and iPhone.
John Koller, PlayStation VP of Brand Marketing said in a PlayStation Network official blog announced the release of PlayStation messaging system for Android and iOS this Monday. This app provides a dedicated interface to quickly send messages to people on PlayStation Network from their phone. "We know that Messages is the most used feature of the PlayStation App, so we created the standalone PlayStation Messages app," Koller said, "In order to get you into your Messages and communicating with your friends faster than ever before."
The app will display full friends' list with optional sorting, either by online status or alphabetically. It will also show any Favorite Groups, to enable users sending message to several people at once. Users will also be able to send text or voice messages, as well as stickers and attachments.
PlayStation Network was initiated together with Sony PlayStation 2 game console in the year 2000 without any official name. It provided online network between gamers of a specific game and had only a limited function. Afterward, together with the release of Sony PlayStation 3, the official PlayStation Network was launched in 2006 Tokyo Game Show.
As a unified online game network, PlayStation Network (PSN) provided social network function for gamers to connect and communicate between friends playing the same game. In 2011 created Sony Entertainment Network as a platform to deliver Sony's digital entertainment, and Play Station Network was included as a game service with other digital media services..
This year, PlayStation Network replaced Sony Entertainment Network as Sony's digital media and entertainment service. PlayStation now become a comprehensive digital entertainment brand for Sony, incorporating television, video, music and game. PlayStation operates former Sony Entertainment video service as PlayStation Video, and music service as PlayStation Music.
According to Mashable, PlayStation Messages focuses only on messages and is separated from the official PlayStation app. It is exactly like the Facebook mobile app and its Messenger counterpart. Mashable also noticed that Sony is not looking to expand beyond the PlayStation universe, because a PSN account is required in order to use the app.
Engadget noticed that in a world of WhatsApp, Line, SMS, Facebook Messenger there's a space for very specific messenger apps. That is exactly what PlayStation Messages is for: talking to anyone on the PSN list.
Currently, PlayStation Network have operated in 71 countries with more than 110 million users worldwide. This makes a huge potential of users for the new PlayStation Messengers.
