Akamai Technologies Inc., the global leader in Content Delivery Network (CDN) services, has released its third quarter report for the year 2015, on Wednesday, on global internet connections network. The data extracted from Akamai Intelligent Platform reveals itinerary of the key global statistics related connection speed, broadband adoption metrics, notable internet disruptions, IPv4 exhaustion and IPv6 implementation.

Quarterly published report of Akamai also includes data gathered from across the Akamai Intelligent Platform about attack on traffic, broadband adoption, mobile connectivity and other relevant topics concerning the Internet and its usage, as well as trends seen in this data over time, according to a report published in Prnewswire.

The data enriched and graphically represented report can be found on 'the Akamai State of the Internet Site' through 'the Akamai State of the Internet app' for iOS and Android devices. Comments and discussions of Akamai community on internet connections have also been furnished in the site.

According to the report, the global average connection speed has increased slightly (0.2%) to 5.1 Mbps compared to the second quarter which accounts for a 14% Y2Y increase. South Korea, Sweden, Norway and Switzerland have been reported to post the highest internet connection speed of 20.5, 17.4, 16.4 and 16.2 Mbps, respectively.

The global average peak connection speed has declined a little for 0.9% to 32.2 Mbps Q2Q while a growth of 30% has been observed Y2Y. Singapore is seen to pioneer among the surveyed geographical territories while Romania and Sweden are the top in Europe with average internet speed of 72.9 and 69.0 Mbps respectively, reports Advanced Television.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the US has redefined from 4 Mbps downstream to 25 Mbps in January. Following FCC definition, Akamai too, has started referring certain thresholds by speed rather than specific terms.

Global adoption of speeds 4 Mbps and greater increased 9.8 percent year over year to hit 65 percent penetration. Adoption of speeds 10 Mbps and up grew 19 percent year over year to hit 27 percent penetration, while adoption of 15 Mbps and up grew 21 percent year over year to hit 15 percent penetration, reports Venturebeat.

Flat progress has been observed in mobile voice traffic and steady growth in mobile data transfer. Mobile data volume has been increased with increasing number of mobile devices. But most intriguingly, global adoption of 25 Mbps speed and greater has increased 15% Y2Y and thus raised the number of broadband users to 5.2%. All of the top 10 European countries have double digit broadband user rate excluding South Korea where 20% of the internet users are connected through broadband.
