Jersey Mike's Subs is now one of America’s fastest growing restaurant chains
After 40 years of business, Jersey Mike's has become one of the fastest-growing submarine sandwich chains, with 1,050 stores all over the US.
According to QSR Magazine, CEO Peter Cancro owned the company since he was 17 years old back in 1975. He said that their brand is authentic, and is a way of life. Unlike other brands all over the country, only Jersey Mike's offer fresh-sliced produce, fresh-grilled cheesesteaks, and, of course, fresh-sliced meats.
They have been operating for decades, but they recently got the momentum they need to take their brand to higher altitudes. The company flat-lined during the 1991 recession. They were derailed and it took them a long time before they started growing again, said Cancro in an interview with the QSR Magazine.
Tucson reported that Jersey Mike's Subs will open at the Interstate 10 and Cortaro Road right next to the famous Mission-style burrito store at 5940 W Arizona Pavilions Drive. Cancro's subs chain is the latest restaurant to open in the area adding to Chille's, Native Grill & Wings, and Village Inn.
Another new chain that Jersey Mike's opened is in Paso Robles, according to A-Town Daily News. They opened last Wednesday at the 2301 Theatre Drive in the Target parking lot. Franchise owner Dan Burrell said, "We are thrilled to be opening our doors in Paso Robles."
Cancro said they were growing in a rapid rate back in 1991, but suddenly the growth stopped. The company went under, but Cancro didn't declare bankruptcy. He was down negative $2 million to $5 million.
According to Cancro, their emergence was slow, and they rebounded one by one. They will open 200 stores this year, and an additional 250 in the next.
Their most famous product was subs with ham, or Italian subs. However, as people shift their appetite to healthier menus, their most popular product now are the ones with turkey.
