Apple has filed papers in court against Samsung. It has asked for an additional $180 million for infringing iPhone patents and designs previously.

According to Tech Times, previously in December, Samsung was penalized $548 million after found guilty of infringing Apple's patents and designs. However, Apple has now asked for additional up to $180 million from Samsung patent infringement through five Samsung handsets that were sold after 2012.

Apple has dragged Samsung to the U.S. court once again by filing a request against it. It claims that the additional amount is to cover the interest and supplemental damages. The Samsung phone models involved in the filing are still not known yet.

Florian Mueller, a patent expert was the one who exposed the latest filing by Apple against Samsung. He then posted the declaration in a blog post, made by Apple's damages expert Julie Davies.

Davies wrote, "I have prepared this declaration to calculate the supplemental damages and prejudgment interest that Samsung owes Apple in Case No. 11-CV-01846," 

He added, "I summarize these amounts in Exhibit 1. As shown there, supplemental damages are $178,659,870. Prejudgment interest on the supplemental damages is $1,192,490 through the date of the hearing on Apple's motion for supplemental damages (March 24, 2016)."

This is not the first time the two tech-rivals have been engaged in a dispute like this. As in 2011, a lawsuit was filed against Samsung in which Apple claimed that South Korean electronics company has broken the law and violated its patents by stealing the designs of Apple phones, as mentioned by Times Of India. As a punishment, it got decided in 2012 that Samsung will pay $930 million to Apple.

In May, about $382 million were trimmed from the amount asked by Cupertino, California-based Apple by the US appeals court. The reason was the failure of Apple to protect its handset's appearance through trademarks. So in following December 14, Apple was paid a total of $ 548.2 million by Samsung as a penalty.

The global smartphone war between Apple and Samsung is not over yet. Another hearing from the appeals court is scheduled next March in San Jose, California federal court regarding the matter of remaining damages.

As reported by CNet, Samsung has also appealed the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. It claims that it is unfair to them and this case will suppress innovation due to their increased fears of legal challenges. However, the high court has not commented over the acceptance of the case for review.

Samsung is a supplier of processors and screens for Apple's iPhones and iPads.  While the two tech-companies are rivals as Apple has filed suit against Samsung for patent infringement violation, they also work as partners.
