Amazon Prime get 3 million new subscribers during the Christmas week
The online retail company, Amazon, revealed that the company managed to rake in more than 3 million new Prime membership one week before Christmas this year. The company said that the increase of new shoppers could be due to various promotion that the company offered during the festive season.
CNN Money reported that the latest figure shows that the company is still a favorite among shoppers even though its Prime membership fee was upgraded to $99 a year from $79 back in March last year. Among promotion done by the Amazon includes free two-day shipping for last minute shoppers and access to Amazon streaming videos.
Although the figure shows a rapid increase, Amazon however, did mention that the figure includes new trial and paying members which mean that the actual figure could be lower than that. According to Tech Crunch, the company typically did not reveal the exact figure of their membership hence it is not a surprise that the latest figure includes trial members.
In a related statement, Amazon said that their 2015 Christmas session is a "record-breaking holiday season. Amazon Prime membership continues to grow, and there are tens of millions of members worldwide."
Geek Wire released Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos statement showing that the company also managed to score high in its viewership through its Amazon Video services as the company continues to compete with other video service providers like Netflix and Hulu.
Bezos said in a statement that "Over 200 million more items shipped for free with Prime this holiday, and members doubled their viewing hours of Prime Video compared to last year with the Amazon Original Series 'The Man in the High Castle' leading the way as the most watched TV season ever on Prime Video."
Besides releasing details regarding its customer's transaction, Amazon also revealed more interesting data regarding shopper's trend worldwide. This includes the rise of mobile shoppers as 70 percent of its customers shop using a mobile device. This is a 10 percent increases compared to last year.
Amazon also revealed that the company shipped more than 200 million items for free during this Christmas season to over 185 countries. This means that the company sales in 2015 is their busiest day ever so far and could potentially become the most profitable for the company.
Amazon is currently under pressure to increase its sales as the company's profit is slowly declining over year. Among its biggest rival includes the United States biggest retail market companies Walmart and Target which is slowly improving their online presence.
