Spotify introduces pace-based music matching features for users who are avid runners
Running has its perks, and now one of those is being able to listen to good music courtesy of the new features added to the Spotify app.
In a recent press event, Spotify announced that they have now found a way to properly pair up runners with the correct songs. Basically, the new feature will study just how fast a runner is going and then give them a song that is perfectly suited to their current pace.
In addition, the new feature will also look at the listening history and the musical preferences of the user to identify the songs that would be best suited for the run.
The new feature does this by first utilizing the sensors already present on most smartphones to identify the runner's current pace, according to Tech Crunch. From there, users can now go to the Spotify app and then click on the running man button to start listening to the tracks that are appropriate for their current pace.
If runners choose to change their tempo, the tracks will change right along with them.
According to The Verge, the goal of the new feature is to enable runners to maintain that elusive "runner's high" that takes hold during the apex of a particularly invigorating and enjoyable run.
In pursuit of this goal, the company has even created its own selection of songs designed for specific kind of runs.
Aside from the announcement of the new pace-based, music-matching feature, Spotify is also adding new content into its app.
Streaming videos, podcasts, and radio shows are also expected to be included in premium version of the mobile app, according to Wired.
Spotify Premium cost $10 a month, but the new content does at least promise subscribers more bang for their bucks.
