Thin is in, at least for LG Display, as they have just recently revealed a new OLED TV that pushes the boundaries of just how slim an electronic device can truly be.

The new TV doesn't have a name yet, but its specs are sure to make people take notice and watch out for when it eventually does reach the point of being launched.

LG's newest TV has a 55-inch display and weighs around 4.5 pounds, but those are not the specs people are talking about. What gets people excited is the fact that the new TV is as thin, or perhaps even thinner than a DVD.

Some have even termed it as the "wallpaper TV," according to The Weekly Observer.

Aside from its incredible thinness, the TV can also be mounted on a wall using a magnetic pad. In effect, it looks as though one is peeling the television off the wall whenever it is being taken down.

Sadly, this ultra-thin offering from LG is but a mere prototype for now. It's unlikely to make its way to store shelves anytime soon, according to CNN Money, but the television does hint at the potential of OLED technology.

OLED technology made it possible to manufacture slimmer televisions featuring high-definition displays that are flexible, and lightweight. 

LG has already said that they intend to ramp up production of OLED TVs over the rest of 2015, according to Value Walk, and there appears to be no reason why they would slow down heading into next year.

Both LG and its rival, Samsung, already have numerous OLED televisions in the market at the moment, and with each jockeying for pole position in the next big electronics market, it would seem safe to assume that the race to come up with the first mass-produced OLED TV is well underway.
