QuizUp latest update transforms app into a social network

QuizUp, at one point a massively-popular trivia game that entered people's lives back in 2013 has now undergone a massive overhaul, changing into something that now closely resembles a social network.

The changes to the game app was courtesy of an update that was released back on Thursday.

The update now gives the app social network elements such as profile pages, as well as the ability to follow topic and user pages concerning quizzes, according to The Verge.

The changes almost make QuizUp look like a combination of Reddit and Facebook, a radically different appearance from the one it featured early on.

QuizUp is also working on changes that will enable it to feature more than just trivia games.

For their part, the people behind QuizUp have said that the new changes are being made simply as a reaction to the way their users are already utilizing the app and not just a last ditch effort to remain relevant.

A desktop version of QuizUp will also be made available soon.

QuizUp allows players to engage in a trivia contest together with other players from around the world. It became a hit soon after forging a deal with Lionsgate that enabled it to use Twilight-based trivia in its presentations, according to Tech Crunch.

Other topics which could come up in the game included questions about British Royalty or spices, keeping users on their toes and preventing them from simply memorizing the game and mastering it that way.

QuizUp remained popular up till 2014, but growth became stagnant before finally losing ground to its competitors.

The drop in users' interest led to QuizUp' owner, Plain Vanilla, to re-package the app, according to Business Insider.

QuizUp had always featured some degree of social features within it even during its initial meteoric rise, but now, those minor features are set to become the central aspects of the re-imagined app.
