Toshiba planning to expand its accounting probe into TV and other media to discover root of irregularities

Toshiba is now set to expand their accounting probe even further into television and other business-related media. The recent movement in the company was brought up in order to address the reasons why irregularities have been showing up in their projects.

The irregularities within Toshiba were spotted within documents pertaining to some infrastructure projects that were in the works for the company. Set to be included in the newly expanded probe are the company's personal computer, television, semiconductor, and infrastructure operations, according to The Japan Times.

Toshiba's decision to formally expand the probe came after it was discovered that irregularities were also spotted with regards to company operations such as booking television promotions and assessing semiconductor inventories.

The new discoveries come in the wake of Toshiba reporting that irregularities were also present in the accounting documents for nine of their infrastructure projects. The nine projects that reportedly presented accounting issues are all domestic, according to Bloomberg.

Toshiba's initial investigation into their bookkeeping flaws originally began on May 15. The company called on the help of two lawyers, two certified public accountants and two other investigators to be part of the initial panel. No word yet on whether the company is looking to bring additional people as the probe is set to expand.

Initially, Toshiba indicated that the company could suffer from as much as ¥50 worth of damages stemming from the irregularities. The figure comes from estimated losses stemming from four infrastructure projects, four power system contracts, and one community solutions project.

Toshiba has not released any specific figure yet as it relates to how much company-wide losses may come from the newly discovered irregularities related to their television and other business-media operations, but they are preparing for a significant hit.

The company's stock already went down 0.2 percent as of Friday morning in Tokyo due to the accounting issues, according to Reuters.

Toshiba has already delayed the release of their yearly earnings report twice because of the accounting irregularities. The company is expected to release the report as soon as the newest probe is completed.
