Facebook's New Payment Features For Facebook Messenger Arrives In NYC, Group Chats Will Be Able To Send And Receive Money
Facebook has expanded coverage of its money transfer service via Facebook Messenger as the service is becomes available in New York City. Facebook announce the new feature earlier this year and it allows Facebook friends to send money to each other but it is available to a limited number of cities only.
Facebook ventured into the mobile payment system earlier this year and upon launching, Facebook Messenger's payment feature was available only to United States cities such as Seattle, Portland, and Austin. New York City is the latest addition to this exclusive list.
Facebook announced that the payments feature being available in NYC is accompanied with new updates in order to make payments made between friends easier. Facebook's new feature is reportedly a potential competitor for money transferring companies such as PayPal and Venmo.
Social payment allow users to connect their MasterCard of Visa debit cards to their Facebook Messenger accounts then tap on a dollar sign button to make the payments. The updates that Facebook is working on include the amounts that were sent before being hyperlinked so if it will be tapped by a user, the payment will be copied and will be sent to the same person. The payments will still be confirmed by the user to avoid accidental entries .
Facebook Messenger payments will also be available in group conversations now. Facebook pointed out that people in a certain group can see the payment made by one user and how much money was sent. However, this payment system is available only to individuals and is not yet open for corporations and businesses.
Facebook's New York launching is the first major metro area to enjoy the Facebook messenger payments and they will be rolling out in other major cities in the coming months although no specific date has been divulged.
