It is being social that counts in fashion start-ups in London nowadays. This can be attested by fashion businesses that have grown customers by creating their own social media.

Going social by adapting social media ideas is what London fashion start-ups have gotten themselves into. A report says Lyst for one, a fashion electronic business company, created its own website with inspiration from Spotify, a music streaming online software that allows personalizing and sharing of playlists. Chris Morton, the owner, discovered this while listening over said online music service where he realized it was offering something fashion websites does not do.

The Lyst website lets customers shop from a wide array of fashion finds. One can also personalize a list of brands one wants and follow a favourite designer as well. Morton calls it as fashion mix tapes which has already 3 million users a month. He aims to have a following of 20 million within five years.

Other entrepreneurs use social media that are already available such as Instagram. In fact, the most successful start-ups are using Instagram to reach its more than 300 million users,  a large pool of potential customers. Wool and the Gang which is into knitting, has a huge following on Instagram. Its parent company MMC Ventures says the United Kingdom has the most flourishing fashion technology firms and they forecast more fashion trends in the future.

VIRTUAL FASHION

The idea of incorporating social media into fashion start-ups is also supported by another source that says the industry will thrive even without the presence of department stores. More consumers nowadays choose to shop conveniently using their mobile apps.

Another report gives tips on how to use social media taking experience from fashion brands. This includes being unique and creative which would help in boosting sales.

For London fashion start-ups and those planning to go into this field, it is important to take in mind not only to be fashionable but sociable as well.
