Chevrolet Announces Use Of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto In 14 New Car Models
Chevrolet will be launching 14 new car models and as announced during the May 28 Google I/O Annual Developers Conference it will be showcase CarPlay app by Apple and Android Auto App by Google in the soon-to-be released new line of cars and trucks.
Chevrolet announced that their in-dash software will be accessible via the iPhone and Android handhelds and this is deemed to be a groundbreaking deal. The first ever car by Chevrolet to be equipped with the apps is the 2016 Cruze that is expected to be out in the market by June 24 this year. Other models that will be having CarPlay and Android Auto are the Camaro, Colorado, Corvette, Malibu, Silverado, and Volt.
The future models to be released by Chevrolet will also get the said feature. However, Chevrolet announced that the Android Auto might not be available as soon as one purchases the car because of the built-in infotainment. Only cars that have their systems setup with the 7-inch MyLink will be offering both the apps. However, if the car purchased comes with an 8-inch screen, only Apple's CarPlay will be available and Google's Android Auto will be available a year after.
CarPlay and Android Auto have the same features as both give users a quicker access to music, maps, messaging, and phone calls. Both have been designed to rely mostly on voice commands in order for users not to be distracted when driving as the apps do not want users to dart their eyes from the road to the screen time and again.
Also, CarPlay and Android Auto are in sync with the infotainment system of Chevrolet, which is the MyLink's "Teen Driver." The Teen Driver mode will be muting the audio if and only if the two front seatbelts are fastened. This feature will still work well with the CarPlay and Android Auto.
Mary Barra, the CEO of General Motors, said in a statement that smartphones are essential to many people thus Chevrolet's partnering with Apple and Google means that the car manufacturing company continues to democratize technology and deliver what is important to their users and customers.
