Google Revamps Cardboard VR App: New Virtual Reality App Now Works With Iphones

Google has released a revamped version of its Cardboard VR app at its I/O Developer Conference in May. The new virtual reality application is set to work with up to 6 inches devices, but what makes it more special than its older version is that it can now work with iPhones too.

The company has first introduced Cardboard at its I/O developer conference last year. The app works in a 3 inches Android device which is inserted in a cardboard viewer, a box equipped with a cheap pair of lenses capable of running virtual reality demos. This year, a modified version has been handed out by Google. Now, Cardboard can already accommodate up to six inches of display and can work with more different devices including iPhones.

Cardboard's iOS version has been launched in the United States store on Thursday packed with demo applications along with its existing QR-code based pairing process to secure its optimization for whichever generation of headset its user is going to use. It can be downloaded for free and can work with iPhone 5 and above.

The application requires Google's VR headset also dubbed as the Cardboard viewer which was also redesigned by the company. It now features an easy-to-assemble body and a new button on the case which allows its users to interact with the content displayed in the device. This newly attached "button" is designed to provide vibration feedback as well.

Google is not the first company to bring virtual reality in the public's pockets. In fact, a few established electronic devices companies like Oculus and Samsung has already released their version of the headset earlier.

Though Google's Cardboard VR does not seem to be as as powerful as the well-known Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR, at least it's the kind of VR which gives a wider range of possibility for the people to try as its application can be downloaded for free while its headset can either be built by the users themselves or be bought for around $20 to $30 only.
