The son of United States' Vice President Joe Biden has died of brain cancer on Saturday at the age of 46 and the former Delaware attorney general has been mourned all over the nation. Joe was the one who announced the death of his son in a statement released by the White House.

The statement regarding Beau Biden's death reads: "The entire Biden family is saddened beyond words. We know that Beau's spirit will live on in all of us, especially through his brave wife, Hallie, and two remarkable children, Natalie and Hunter."

Joe pointed out in the statement that he and the wife and sons of Beau were with him when he died. The U.S. vice president added that his son demonstrated integrity, courage, and strength during his battle with the illness the same way he battled every day of his life.

Beau was diagnosed with brain cancer on August 2013 and even underwent a surgery at the MD Anderson Cancer Center located at the University of Texas in Houston in order to remove the lesion. The surgery was followed by chemotherapy and radiation treatment and he was cancer-free by November. However, there was a recurrence by spring the following year and by May of 2014, he was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Beau served two terms as the Attorney General of Delaware and planned to run for governor this 2016. He was the attorney general of the state for eight years and joined the investment law firm Grant & Eisenhofer in 2015.

Having brain cancer was not his first health setback as he also suffered from mild stroke back in 2010. Due to this, he has become very cautious with his plans as he wanted to balance his career and his family life. Also, in 1972, he was badly injured due to a car crash that led to his mother and sister's death. His father took oath and was sworn into office as he just won a Senate seat beside the hospital bed of Beau.

He also served as the captain in a Delaware National Guard for a year-long tour in Iraq. He chose to serve the military even if he was offered a seat in the Senate after his father Joe became the vice president in 2009.

Beau is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and earned his law degree from the Syracuse University. After finishing his law degree, he worked as a law clerk for a federal judge in New Hampshire. He also worked as a federal prosecutor in Philadelphia for five years.

After the announcement of Beau's untimely death, government officials took to different social networking platforms to express their grief. Secretary of State John Kerry, former White House secretary Hillary Clinton, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and U.S. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are among the many who expressed their condolences for the Biden family.
