Google’s Project Soli changes how we interact w/ wearables

Google has recently introduced Project Soli that transforms the way we use wearables such as smartwatches. The new technology facilitates interaction with the said device without having the need for our hands to touch it.

Google launched Project Soli during the Google I/O 2015 on Friday wherein the said technology aims to make using wearables even easier. While most of the modern technology nowadays offer touch screens, this project does away with it. It still lets our hands use them but without directly touching the gadget.

According to a report, Project Soli is a sensor in a tiny chip form that is able to detect hand gestures in real time with the help of radar technology. Hands are said to be more precise when it comes to detection compared to voice. Radars are also more sensitive than cameras so it can detect hand movements.Project Soli is beneficial especially for those who find it hard to manipulate their small wearables using their fingers. One can enter a text on their smartwatches for instance despite its small screen, press a button or make swipes in the air. The chip can also give hands-off control from one's phone. Moreover, Project Soli can sense all other kinds of hand signals such as waving or crossing fingers.

Project Soli was founded by Ivan Poupyrev. Another source shares other possible hand signals that can be identified are scrolling menus and rolling a button as one would do in an analog watch in order to set the alarm on smartwatches.

A report adds that Project Soli can also respond to hand movements like imitating voluming control. It can be used in all kinds of wearables such as Apple devices as well as cellphones.

Project Soli will change the way users interact with their wearables in two years time which is the projected availability of the technology in the market.
