It is official: Microsoft will finally be rolling out its latest OS, Windows 10, to the public on July 29, and it will come as a free upgrade for those who are currently using Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

The long wait is finally over for those who are itching to know when Microsoft will be upgrading its current operating system as it has recently announced that the successor of Windows 8.1 is set to be released a month from now in 190 different markets around the world.

Microsoft's new operating system will be a free upgrade for the computers which runs versions 7 and 8.1. The users will receive a notification in the taskbar notifying them that they can already upgrade their computer's OS.  The said upgrade however, will only cover one whole year of availability and will afterwards require the users to purchase Windows 10.

As for those Windows phone owners, they still have to wait a little longer as the company did not confirm yet the release of the phone version of the said upgrade.

Windows 10 will run a lot of new features including the new digital personal assistant Cortana, a new web browser named Edge and the Start menu which had been removed in Windows 8.1. Other than that, it will also have an enhanced security features with its free anti-malware protection and simultaneous security updates.

According to Terry Myerson, Microsoft's head of operating systems, Windows 10 is designed to provide the services in accordance to the company's vision of protecting and respecting its users' personal information, mobilizing the users' experience in their respective devices and offering natural interactions with your Windows devices, including speech, touch, ink, and holograms.

"We designed Windows 10 to run our broadest device family ever, including Windows PCs, Windows tablets, Windows phones, Windows for the Internet of Things, Microsoft Surface Hub, Xbox One and Microsoft HoloLens-all working together to empower you to do great things."

Meanwhile, for those who will not be able to avail the one year free upgrade, they can purchase Microsoft's forthcoming Windows 10 Home for only $119 and the Windows 10 Pro for only $199. There is no confirmation yet as for its international pricing but if converted, it would be £78 / AU$156 and £131 / AU$262 for the Home and Pro versions, respectively.
