Volvo develops Apple Smartwatch to replace car keys; On Call System Features revealed
Volvo has developed a new Apple watch edition that can be connected to car through On Call system. The original function of the device is to monitor security and location when accident happens or if the car is stolen. It was later developed into a remote that allows the driver to turn on some functions like climate control setting, car location, check fuel and turn on the car without using keys.
According to Tech Times, Swedish automaker announced that the Volvo On Call app now allows operating systems like Android, iOS or Windows phone device to control some of the car's function. The app also works with Apple Watch and smartwatches.
From being a safety app, Volvo turns Call morphed into a key control that can lock and unlock your car doors. In case you forgot to lock your car, you can just lock it with one click from your device. Mashable reported that it's also comforting that there is an active heating and cooling functions that can be adjusted in accordance to the present temperature. If you are having a hard time finding your car in the parking lot, this one is the best answer.
An illustration of the device is shown during the press release but some of its function is still unclear. Volvo collaborated with Cortana that works in providing user's access so they can input navigation information from their phone.
Volvo also invited large car manufacturers including BMW and Porsche for the future launching of the device. For 14 years, the Company has been working on the On Call Service and by this time, they want to achieve a better device and apps for the car owners as reported by Wired.
Volvo will release an update for On Call by the end of June. Car keys can be now replaced by wearable and let's see how the company will work on this.
