IHeartRadio hits top of charts with 70 million registered users
iHeart Radio has grown to 70 million registered users
The internet radio platform- iHeart Radio says its fan base has swelled to a whopping 70 million registered users. It has reached the milestone in less than four years since its inception, At the said rate, it grows way faster than any other streaming music service.
It has been only six months since the music streaming company announced that it touched 60 million users notch.
"It's a big day for us. We have reached this point faster than any other radio or digital service, even faster than Facebook," posted iHeartRadio on its blog.
Owen Grover, iHeart Radio's General Manger told TechCrunch that key to its success was promoting their own app on iHeartMedia's traditional radio stations. This, he cited, demonstrates the personal relationship of the firm and its on-air personalities have developed with the listeners.
However, number of registered users doesn't imply how many of them are actually listening to iHeart Raido. In contrast, Apple's radio station Spotify claims that it has 60 million monthly active users, 15 million of which are paying subscribers.
Grover noted that iHeartRadio fan base is growing everyday with hundreds and thousands of new users registering with the iHeart Radio.
iHeart's GM pointed that their streaming radio platform works uniquely, allowing users to enjoy the music without even registering. Users need not signup unless they want to try their hands on additional features like creating playlists. This way iHeartRadio's reach is potentially much bigger than the registered users base," he stated further.
Indeed, the online radio service provider claims it has a network base of over 87 million new visitors each month, while iHeartRadios app has been downloaded more than 600 million times on over 60 device platforms.
iheartRadio pointed out that over 60 percent of listeners uses its platform through mobile devices, while about 40 percent listens to them through desktops. Further, more than 580 million custom stations have been created by their users. The custom stations feature a catalogue of over 20 million songs, spanning more than eight million artists.
