Uber announces cashless payments in India, to accept payments via credit card again
Uber once again will start accepting payments via credit card in India. Cashless payment facility will be available across all the 18 cities covered by Uber in India.
The service will be thrown open to the masses starting July 13 and passengers can enjoy paying via Indian or international credit cards along with digital mobile wallet Paytm. The company will accept all major cards issued by American Express, Visa and MasterCard.
Uber accepts payments via credit cards across the globe but it had discontinued doing so in India after bank regulators required a two factor authentication process. However, the company now announced to have introduced the two factor authentication system in place which can be accessed on the Uber mobile app.
Uber has joined hands with payment facilitator MobiKwik to facilitate credit card payments complying with the regulations as put forth by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which calls for the two factor payment authentication. The two factor authentication process is designed to assist in payments when the cardholder is not available physically. Furthermore, MobiKwik's integration allows Uber to accept payments via debit cards as well, which is something that the taxi service provider did not entertain until now.
Paytm along with Uber mobile wallet will allow customers to load up balance in their accounts via credit and debit cards or internet banking. While Paytm eradicates the hurdles of owning a credit card, which might sway people from using Uber, the entire setup was being criticized by some quarters in the past. However, reinstating credit card payment facility signifies the convenient payment process system that Uber is famous for all across the world.
The company is thrilled to announce the introduction of credit card payments. Currently, the service is available for Android Uber app users only and is expected to roll out for iOS app users in the coming weeks. Moreover, Uber on its official newsroom stated in a blog that all the payment details furnished by the customers is encrypted and secured using optimum security standards.
It is not only about using plastic and going cashless, and Uber has showcased that the company is all ears to the local subtleties that revolve around payment in India.
Unlike Paytm, the new Uber app will allow the users to add multiple cards and will accept all major credit cards.
