Gas up with a tap: Apple Pay will soon be accepted at 3,000 Chevron Gas Pumps

Chevron recently announced that it will be accepting Apple Pay as a form of payment at various Chevron gas pumps this 2015.  This option gives customers the convenience of filling up their cars with gas and then paying for it with their iPhones using Apple's recent mobile payment system.

Chevron had revealed such plans last year in an official statement and stated:

"Initially, Apple Pay payments will be made in the store, but we are working along with Apple Pay on developing the technology out at the fuel dispensers as well," said Chevron spokesperson Braden Reddall.

Current reports indicate that Chevron is the sole oil company that has agreed to accept Apple Pay payments. For now, Chevron has planned to accept Apple mobile payments at its 3,000 gas pump outlets as well as Texaco convenience stores scattered across the United States.

Since its announcement last October 2014, more than a million credit cards have been registered with Apple Pay in the first three days, it was made available to the public, with a growth of 1% on all electronic transactions in November, just a month after the launch.

Mobile payments are fairly new butthose recent statistics indicate that consumers might just be more than ready to embrace the convenience of technology.

Once Apple Pay at Chevron gas pumps comes into play, all iPhone folks need to do after filling up their tank with gas, is to tap their iPhones onto a sensor to make a payment and drive off.

Apple might be getting a substantial number of registrants for Apple Pay, however some retailers like CVS and Rite Aid are declining to adopt the mobile payment system.

It's unclear why such businesses refuse to accept Apple Pay as a form of payment but rumor has it that the Merchant Customer Exchange that comprises a large number of retailers in the U.S. plans to roll-out its own mobile payment service which is told to be in the testing phase already.
