Google brings Android One to Africa

Google's Android One initiative is now officially on its way to Africa.

For those who may not be familiar with Android One, it is an initiative started by the search engine giant, Google, as a way to help bring inexpensive yet still useful smartphones to developing countries, according to Business Insider Australia.

When it comes to Android One, Google's main role is to focus on the development, marketing and the provision of technical support that will be needed for the smartphones that will be released as part of the initiative.

Google, however, will not be involved in the manufacturing of the devices themselves, as that part of the operation is handed over to their partners.

It is worth noting that Google works with different manufacturers in each country that they bring the Android One initiative to.

The Android One initiative was launched a year ago in India, and Google subsequently made cheaper smartphones more widely available in that part of the world.

After the initiative's initial launch in India, it has since made its way to other developing countries all over the world. Other countries that have also received smartphones courtesy of the Android One initiative include Indonesia, Pakistan and the Philippines, according to Venture Beat.

Oddly enough, the continent of Africa has been left off the list of places that the Android One program has been introduced to, at least until now. Several countries will be receiving new smartphones courtesy of the Android One initiative, and the list thus far includes Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria.

It's unclear right now if Google has any plans to make the new smartphone available in other African nations.

Google is now finally able to bring inexpensive smartphones to the region thanks to a deal with Hong Kong's Infinix.

The new smartphone that will be making its way to Africa will be known as the Hot 2.

The specs of the Hot 2 have also been revealed.

Google's Hot 2 will be equipped with a quad-core MediaTek processor. It will also reportedly have 16GB of internal storage available along with 16GB of RAM on hand as well. The smartphone will also have a 5-inch display. The Hot 2 will also be operating, using the Android 5.1 operating system. The new smartphone will also have dual SIM card slots available to users.

Of course, the Hot 2 will be on sale for the reasonable price of $87.
